Nicolas Claris

Nicolas Claris grew up in Cannes, in the Suquet district, next to the fishing port and the Palais des Festivals. This unique setting nurtured his deep respect for the sea, for sailors, and for the imagination sparked by images. He built boats and sailed across the Mediterranean and the Caribbean during the 1970s and 80s, before founding his own communication agency dedicated to the boating industry.
His passion for photography developed through rigorous technical mastery and a strong artistic culture. In 1974, after working with fashion photographer Henri Heiderscheid, he chose the sea. He became a professional photographer in 2000 and was a pioneer in digital photography within the yachting sector. His style is defined by precision, a keen ear for clients' needs, and constant curiosity. He soon became an international reference for interior yacht photography, and quickly expanded his scope to include architecture (notably Bordeaux châteaux) and gastronomic compositions for a Michelin-starred chef. This eclecticism fuels an “altruistic” approach, where the photographer steps aside to better reveal the subject.
Commissioned by shipyards, architects, charter agencies or magazines, his work remains true to a vision of magnifying the world of yachting in all its dimensions.
His photographic signature is shaped by technical precision, light, and timing. He seeks what he calls the “blue note” — that suspended moment when reality becomes beauty. Whether editorial, advertising or artistic, his work is always at the service of the subject. Enhance without misleading. He has been a member of the Union des Photographes Professionnels, board member of the French Nautical Industries Federation, member of the International Superyacht Society, and Pentax ambassador for over 12 years.
In short, Nicolas Claris’ approach blends technical skill, aesthetics, and a deep passion for the sea — with rare loyalty to the subjects he photographs.
